Year 5 Visit to Cardiff City March 2018
The children of Year 5 visited Cardiff City on the morning of 28th March 2018 for an Intergenerational Day. The children spoke with older visitors to the stadium about their memories of sport and compared and contrasted how sport has changed for different generations. The children had an exciting tour of the stadium and behind the scenes places that members of the public don't usually see - he laundry and Press Room. Finally, they learnt about dementia and how to be a Dementia Friend.
Years 5 & 6 visit to Darulisra Mosque February 2018
following on from the Year 3 and 4 visit to the Darulisra mosque, Cardiff in January, the children of Years 5 and 6 made their visit ti the mosque on Tuesday 13th February.

Class GR2 at Cardiff Castle January 2017
The children visited Cardiff Castle as part of their Learning Project. They had a tour of the castle learning about its history from Roman times, the Normans, Victorians to the present day. The children were also lucky enough to meet a real medieval knight who taught them about weapons and armour.

Years 1 & 2 Inside Out Film and Brain Games
On Monday 20th June, classes 1SW and 2GR went on a trip to the Haydn Ellis Building, Cardiff University where the children were treated to the showing of the Disney Film "Inside Out". The film is about how the human brain may work and how different emotions and memories control our behaviour. After the film the children enjoyed taking part in different brain games and challenges. The organisers were very impressed with the children's interest, participation in the activities and behaviour.
Class 1SW visit to Bristol Zoo
Class 1SW spent a whole day at Bristol Zoo recently as part of their "Mini Zoo" learning topic.
Class 2GR visit to Bristol Zoo
As part of our "Mini Zoo" Learning Topic this half-term we spent a day at Bristol Zoo to look at and study the many different creatures of all shapes and sizes.
Special Visitors Thursday 27th April 2016
On Thursday 27th April 2016 the school welcomed some special visitors. Six ladies, all former pupils who were at the school in its first year during the 1950's had asked if they could see the school in its modern state. Mrs Manley showed them around, visiting the classes and seeing how things have changed since their time here. They shared some fascinating memories and showed us some photographs taken around 1956. Notice in the photographs how the glass wall that used to be at the front of the building has now changed to the brick wall with "Fairwater Primary". Perhaps someone may recognise the names on the back of one of the photographs? It would be great to invite the ladies back to share some more of their school memories!

Sports Relief 2016
Despite the weather, Fairwater Primary spent a lovely afternoon taking part in lots of sport to raise money for Sport Relief 2016!
Class 3BM have had lots of fun learning how to play the recorders with Mrs Ventor!
In March, Ms Shanahan and Miss Kane started to run a Lego Club. It has proved very popular. The children are showing off their creative skills as well as learning how to share, work together and share ideas. Huge thanks to Mrs Shanahan for having the idea and to everyone who has donated Lego or offered to pay for Lego for the children.

Gardening Club March 2016
Mrs Brown & Mrs O'Connell run our Gardening Club on a Wednesday after school. After a long winter of rain, there is finally some sunshine. The children having been planting potatoes which should be ready to eat in the summer.
Fairtrade Breakfast 2016
On Thursday March 10th 2016 the Eco-Committee organised a Fairtrade Breakfast for Breakfast Club. The children enjoyed Fairtrade honey, strawberry jam on toast and Fairtrade bananas with their cereal. The staff at school drank Fairtrade tea and coffee at breaktime.

Glenda the Harpist
We were very lucky to have Glenda the Harpist visit the school again the week before St David's Day. She treated us to some beautiful harp playing and singing. She has played from many people including the Queen and the Royal Family!
Ukuleles and Choir February 2016
Years 4,5 and 6 have been learning to play the Ukulele this half-term and performed for parents just before half-term. The audience were also treated to some beautiful and sweet singing by the Choir. Massive thanks to Mrs Ventnor for her patience, expertise and inspiration. Well done to the children too.
Year 3 and 4 Visit to Techniquest
As part of our Blood Bones & Gory Bits Learning Project the children visited Techniquest and enjoyed a show about how the human body works. The children also had the chance to explore many of the other scientific exhibits.
Year 5 and 6 Christmas concert 2015
The children of Years 5 and 6 put on two fantastic Christmas Concerts at the end of Autumn Term. Thanks to everyone involved, especially to the children for all their hard work.

Forest School October 2015
Mrs Brown has started Forest School activities. This term children from Class 4RP have been learning how to make outdoor shelters and used some of those skills to make models of Celtic houses as part of their Learning Project "Gods & Gladiators".

As part of their learning project, "Gods & Gladiators", some of the children of Class 4RP made models of Celtic buildings using authentic wattle and daub techniques shown to them by ?Mrs Brown.

Class 34MK Global Gourmet
The children of Class 34MK ran their own cafe as the Express part of the Global Gourmet Learning Project. They enjoyed preparing and serving food and looking after the finanaces.
Holly Morwena, a talented singer/songwriter and relative of Rhidian's in Class 34MK came to school to play guitar and sing. Her wonderful performances were an example of someone combining a talent and hard work to achieve success. She is an inspiration to anyone and to the children taking part in Fairwater's Got Talent.

The Junior Road Safety Officers were out on Wellwright Road recently, helping to keep people safe at the end of the school day.

Mme Ballihaut from France visits Fairwater
Mme Ballihaut visited Fairwater on Monday 20th April and Tuesday 21st April. Her school in St Sauveur de Meilhan is partnered with Class 3/4MK. She enjoyed visiting the whole school and spending some time seeing the well-known sights of Cardiff.
Athletics tournament year 5
Year 5 attended a athletes tournament organised by Cardiff met, the children worked together and as a team. The competed against Peterlee and Coed Y Gof and won!
Wear Red for British Heart Foundation Day
On Friday 6th February the children and staff at school raised £155 for the British Heart Foundation by wearing RED and other sponsored activities including face painting and a quiz.
Class 34MK in Cardiff City Centre and Cardiff Bay
Class 34MK and a class from St Fagan's Primary School vivited Cardiff city centre and Cardiff Bay to see some of the city's well-known sites. They will find out more about these places and the history of the city to share what they learn with their French partner schools.

St. David's Day 2014
We celebrated St. David's Day on the 7th March this year as it fell on the weekend. It was lovely to see all the children taking part in a range of Welsh activities throughout the day as well as so many children taking part in our Eisteddfod. ‘Da iawn ‘. KS2 children received certificates for their events during the Eisteddfod.
Welsh Water - Let's Stop the Block
Sharon from Welsh Water- Dwr Cymru visited the school to tell the children about the problems caused by flushing things down the toilet that should be got rid of in better ways. More and more drains are blocked by inappropriate things - nappies, cooking oil, cotton buds etc. Some year 6 children helped out with the demonstration.
Saving Energy Assembly
Matthew Preece from Cardiff Council came to school and led an assembly about how important it is to save energy at school and at home. With the help of some of our children and Mr Krawiecki, Mr Preece explained how electricity comes to our school and how pollution, which can harm the earth is caused.
Classes 4MK and 3TM visited the Woodland Centre at Rockwool near Bridgend. The children looked at different aspects of a woodland environment and learnt about some the different animals and plants that live there.
Storey Arms June 2013
The Year 5 children spent a day and night at the Storey Arms Activity Centre near Brecon. The weather was kind allowing them to enjoy the fantastic Welsh mountain and forest scenery while taking part in activities as varied as exploring a disused railway tunnel, gorge walking and exploring streams and watrerfalls!
Eco Committee at One Planet Festival
Some of the Eco-Committee were invited to take part in the One Planet Festival, Millennium Centre where the took part in a variety of activities to promote sustainability and looking after the envoironment.
